The Value of Targeting Precision
The Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) defines the target audience for each campaign. The ICP per Campaign feature enables teams to adjust targeting filters for each campaign goal, thereby improving the relevance of outreach.
Before getting started, make sure you have:
- An active profile connected to Samplead
- Know the ICP you want to input
Step 1: Start a New Campaign
1. Go to the Campaigns page in your Samplead dashboard.

2. Click the '+ New campaign' button located at the top right of the page.

Step 2: Choose Your Campaign Type
Select the campaign type based on the prospects you want to reach
- New Prospects
- Existing Network

Step 3: Campaign settings
Name Your Campaign
Enter a clear and descriptive name for your campaign in the Campaign Name field, then click "Next" in the bottom-right corner of your screen.

Step 4: ICP definition
When defining the Ideal Customer Profile (ICP), select filters that best match your campaign goals. Below are the main filter options.
-
Company Lookalikes: Use your best-fit customers to automatically find other similar companies to target.
-
Company Headcount: Filter prospects based on the size of the company (e.g., number of employees) to ensure scale and relevance.
-
Job title: Target specific roles or functions within a company (e.g., Head of Sales, Chief Executive Officer, CFO). This is critical for reaching decision-makers.
-
Headquarters location: Segment companies based on where their main office is located.
-
Seniority: Filter prospects by their level of experience or hierarchy in the company (e.g., VP, Director, C-Level).
-
Industries: Target companies operating in specific sectors or fields (e.g., Cybersecurity, Financial Services, Retail).
-
Prospect location: Segment individuals based on their current geographic location, which might differ from the company headquarters.

After defining the ICP, click Apply to confirm your selection. Always try aiming for a green or yellow icp score:

Step 5: Edit the ICP of an existing campaign If you need to adjust the targeting of a campaign that is already running:
-
Go to the Campaigns page and select the campaign you wish to modify

2. Access ICP Definition: Click on the ICP definition tab located at the top of the campaign view.
3. Adjust Filters: Modify your criteria (e.g., Job title, Prospect location, or Seniority) in the Prospect filters section.

- Click Save or Apply Changes. The system will update the prospect suggestions based on the new criteria.
-
When an ICP is changed, more types of prospects are now being re-evaluated and might be canceled due to the new ICP filters. This ensures your campaign remains strictly aligned with your updated goals.

Tips & Best Practices
Maximize ICP Score: If the score is Red, try removing filters or adding more companies to the Company Lookalikes section to broaden the audience. (If you want to know more about the ICP scoring, click here)
Closed-Won Companies: Use your closed-won customers as the best examples of Company Lookalikes to ensure the high quality of new suggested prospects.
Job Title Specificity: Be aware that the system searches for the specific words you enter in the Job Title field; consider all relevant variations (e.g., CTO vs. Chief Technology Officer).
